“Work” vs “play” is what should baffle us about the Supreme Court ruling

College athletes do work their tails off being the best they can be in representing their school and making their fans proud in the sports they play. It’s not PE, where they’re playing a game and having fun.

However, there is a very big difference in amateur and professional sports. A high school pitching ace has the option of turning professional out of high school and beginning a journey through the minor leagues with the dream of being on a major league roster one day. This is what this gifted athlete has chosen to do with his life. His superior talent has made him a PROFESSIONAL. He deserves every dime he gets paid in the minor leagues and in the major leagues. This is WORK…a PROFESSION for a PROFESSIONAL.

The AMATEUR athlete may or may not ever make it to the major leagues, the NBA, or the NFL. In exchange for representing their chosen college or university in their chosen sport, they receive a paid education worth tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, free lodging, and free meals. They’re not working at the local saw mill 60 hours a week for 4 years without pay. They’re PLAYING a game in which they may or may not ever become a PROFESSIONAL. The sweet deal is in the end if they don’t, they have a diploma that costed them no money and all kinds of open doors for a very comfortable and successful life.

You don’t have to be a minion and agree with every way the Supreme Court rules. This is simply mindless. They have taken a step in ruining a good thing.

Call me old fashioned, but you will never change my mind on this.
