Minor Property Damage Crash Turns Into Shooting; Two Arrested on Multiple Charges
On Friday, March 16, 2018, at approximately 11:46 a.m., a PT Cruiser was exiting a Shell gas station when it came into contact with a Nissan Altima as it was traveling east on Heiskell Avenue. Both vehicles stopped after the collision. Both vehicles only suffered minimal damage. After the drivers engaged in a verbal altercation, the female driver of the PT Cruiser was attempting to leave the scene when she began bumping the male Nissan driver in the legs with her vehicle. This continued several times until he ended up on top of the hood.
The female continued to drive away with the male still on the hood, swerving back and forth, attempting to throw the male off the vehicle. This continued until she finally stopped at the intersection of Central Street. The male on the hood jumped off the vehicle, pulled a .40 caliber handgun, and fired multiple times at the tires of the PT Cruiser to prevent the driver from leaving again. The driver was able to drive approximately 30 yards to an alleyway where she waited for officers.
The shooter, Azeez Obitayo, was taken into custody and has been charged with Reckless Endangerment. The driver of the PT Cruiser, Ariawna Beason, was also arrested and has been charged with Reckless Endangerment, Vehicular Assault, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, No Driver’s License, Violation of State Registration Law, and No Insurance. While this was unfolding, Obitayo’s Altima that had been left at the original scene of the crash was struck by another vehicle. No one was injured in either crash or the shooting. Beason had multiple passengers in her vehicle at the time of the crash including a 4-month-old child. Obitayo had one passenger
