I was one of the posters who said losing Baron would’ve been a disaster. Here is why…
Because we have been a 3-4 defense under Pruitt we lacked 4-3 DEs. Out of necessity we needed to play Tremblay and Blakely at DE. These guys are not DEs in modern football. The 2 of them combined for 3 Sacks the entire year. At the DE position that’s dreadful.
If Baron were to had left, we would be back to playing DT bodies like Bumphus and Eason at DE. Baron coming back allows him to lock down 1 spot while Harrison and Young rotate at WDE. If baby Jesus brings us Verse, we are set at DE.
Baron staying is most important for 2023. He will be our only experienced DE on the roster (Pending Verse decision).
Is Baron an All-SEC guy? Likely not. But he’s damn sure a starter in this league, and it’s 1 less position we have to worry about with the transfer portal.
This roster needs stability. 4-5 year players. Some positions like OL we can lose guys to the portal. DE is not a position we can afford to lose guys.
