1. UCF's TD % last year when inside the red zone was 67%. UT's was 65%. I'm using Brent's numbers to calculate %s. Maybe having a big QB who can run like Milton will help. Still, I would not expect that much improvement in the TD %.
2. Interesting that Heupel said Milton would be the starting QB "for the first game." I speculate that he believes Milton will be the starter for the season, but his comment did not go that far.
3. If I were a coach, which I am not, I would have each of my QBs learn how to punt. Of course, with the pace of Heupel's offense virtually assuring the opponents will dominate time of possession, a quick kick would be a rarity. Nevertheless, in certain situations it can be a valuable weapon. Several years ago when most QBs lined up under center it was necessary to try and sneak a punter into the game and snap the ball between the QBs legs in order to execute a quick kick. Sometimes the opposing defense would recognize the substitution and the element of surprise would be partly negated. Now since the QB is several yards from the center when the ball is snapped it is easier to execute the quick kick. The QB doesn't have to be a great punter. the punt doesn't have to have a high trajectory or travel 40 yards from the LOS in the air. If it catches the opponent by surprise it can roll 15 or 20 yards easily. Even if the quick kick is only used once or twice, it is a tactic the opponent will have it guard against which may give receivers more opportunity to get open.
4. I agree with everyone who has said all the QBs should play on Thursday. Moreover, I hope we do not have even one starter on the field in the 4th quarter. With our depth problems it is imperative that less experienced players begin to develop.
5. IMHO we will not know whether this football team is any good after the game on Thursday due to the caliber of the competition. However, if we see a performance like the Vols' game against ASU a few years ago or more recently (Heaven forbid) Georgia State, then we will know that this is going to be a bad football team.
