His message: "not nearly enough high-impact guys."
This man has been in coaching longer than many of us have been alive. He's put multiple players in the NFL, and coached in the ACC, SEC, Big East, and a few other places in his career. He and his wife are close friends with my parents. They are in Chattanooga spending the weekend with my parents, and he and I just talked when I called my dad.
He also bleeds orange, and played at Tennessee.
He says that Tennessee signed some really good players in Smith, Gray, Chandler, and a few others. He named Shamburger as a player he thinks has a very high ceiling (DBs are his specialty).
He flat out doesn't believe there are enough big time players in this class. At least not to take Tennessee where he (and all of us) think it should go, especially when compared against our main rivals.
This is straight from someone who bleeds orange, and has done this professionally for going on 40 years.
