Examine these stats and come away with what you will...
2007 Central Michigan (8-6 record)
Dan Lefevour 355-543-3652-27 TDS- 13 INTS
Antonio Brown 102 rec- 1003 yds- 6 TDS
Bryan Anderson 90 rec- 1132 yds- 10 TDS
As you can see, there certainly isn't a case where the leading receiver only has 30 to 35 catches and a limited opportunity to make plays.
2008 Central Michigan (8-5 record)
Dan Lefevour (apparently injured at some point) 251-376-2784-21 TDs- 6 INTS
Brian Brunner 65-101-981-6 TDS-2 INTS
Antonio Brown 93-998-7 TDS
Bryan Anderson 63-865-6 TDS
Kito Poblah 43-532-3 TDS
Joe Bockheim 35-491-5 TDS
As you can see, there was a disruption at QB with an apparent injury that season to his star QB, but his WR's still put up flashy numbers. Five had at least 35 receptions, and those 35 receptions have been enough to lead our team in the first couple of years here under Butch.
2009 Central Michigan (12-2 record)
Dan Lefevour 318-456-3438-28 TDS-7 INTS
Antonio Brown 110-1198-9 TDS
Bryan Anderson 64-784-7 TDS
Kito Poblah 53-681-4 TDS
Again, more of the same. Notice the nice 12-2 record compared to the 8 win seasons prior.
2010 Cincinnati (4-8 record)
Zach Collaros 225-383-2902-26 TDS-14 INTS
D.J. Woods 57-898-8 TDS
Armon Binns 75-1101-10 TDS
Butch makes the move to another team and shows he isn't afraid to use the passing game. Notice the bad record from the team he inherited.
2011 Cincinnati (10-3 record)
Zach Collaros 166-272-1940-15 TDS-10 INTS
Munchie Legaux 55-116-749-5 TDS-4 INTS
DJ Woods 37-450-2 TDS
Anthony McClung 49-683-6 TDS
Kembrell Thompkins 44-536-2 TDS
Notice the nice improvement to 10 wins.
2012 Cincinnati (10-3 record)
Munchie Legaux 120-230-1716-13 TDS-9 INTS
Brendon Kay 87-138-1298-10 TDS-2 INTS
Anthony McClung 34-539-2 TDS
Travis Kelce 45-722-8 TDS
Kembrell Thompkins 34-541-2 TDS
Damon Julian 24-377-4 TDS
Another 10 win season. It's interesting to note that in Butch's history at Central Michigan, Cincinnati, and Tennessee, he's never regressed in the win column from year to year. He's either stayed the same for one year or he's improved. That doesn't sound to me like a coach who doesn't know what he's doing or loses his team.
This tells me that Dobbs is not and was not the best passer in the country which we all knew. On a scale of 1 to 10 he's probably a 6.5, but he's made enough plays to get us back to back bowl victories and the chance at a 10 win season that we haven't seen around here in a long time
This also tells me that we're going to see this offense open up after Guarantano takes over. Receivers are going to be making plenty of catches and putting up lots of numbers too.
To write off Butch now is plain stupid. The man needs at least through Guarantano's career to see how the offense evolves and how we perform in the win column. I have a sneaky suspicion most of us are going to be laughing at ourselves for whining and moaning about his offense being boring. Give the man time and GO VOLS!
