Damn. Just damn. Tournament sports are ridiculously hard and rare does the best team throughout the year end up winning it because all it takes is for a good team to get hot and the great team to hit a lull and you wind up with days like today. It’s also what makes this sport and all tourney sports so much fun. You are constantly on the edge of your seat. For literally weeks. It’s the epitome of nerve wracking.
That said. Congratulations to this Vol team. I’m crushed we aren’t going to get to see some of those dudes in orange ever again. That sucks, but they’ve helped to build a foundation that will last this program years into the future and for that, I am grateful.
Next, wtf is wrong with some Tennessee fans. Truly couldn’t wait for this day to come so they could say, “told you if they wouldn’t act that way, they would have won” “maybe they got humbled and will come back next year with a better attitude”. To that I say f that and f you. You know who you are so I won’t specifically call you out but I hope you watched the 3rd baseman, a GREAT player act like an absolute zero class fool after the game. Mocking our guys. Digging his spikes into the dugout padding, and mimicking our players. Where’s his class? How is he any better that our guys? Does he deserve to lose because of that? Nope. If somebody doesn’t like it then they need to beat his ass and send him home like he helped to do us. But never forget it goes both ways and as long as you’re ok with that, I’m ok with you saying whatever you like. Either back your talk up or take it like a man when they shove it down your throat.
Lastly, and I can’t believe I’m saying this because I believe he’s a jackass in the highest order. But Link had the best game plan anybodys had against the Vols all year. So credit to him for that. His plan from the jump was never let the Vols grab mo. Whenever we started to get something going, he’d call timeout, go talk to his guy and disrupt any mo we had going. If needed, he switch pitchers to stunt the momentum we’d build and our guys fell right Into it every time. I honestly believe he would have changed pitchers every batter until he exhausted every arm he had to if that would have thwarted any sign of momentum from the Vols. He believed if he could just keep the Vols within striking distance, he’d manufacture a couple of runs. I truly believe he felt like if he was within 2-3 runs in the 7th-8th inning, one of our guy would make a mistake and give up a walk and he could steal a guy to third, and get a run from that.
So, while I and other fans feel shitty after that game, I feel worse for the kids. They played their hearts out and fell short. It sucks and eventually the Vols will win the one that matters the most right now. When they do, watch out. There won’t be a Sonofabitch alive that can stand this fan base and the absolute trash talk that will come from said fans. Wait, that’s already the case but the Vols will be on top and the fan base will not ever let them forget it.
