The WKRP thread made me think of an actual eerily similar promotion gone wrong. It would have been in the mid 60's. Big K had a promotion where they were going to release live chickens with prizes tied to their legs. The parking lot was full of people and then they released the chickens. Fights broke out over the chickens and the chickens got literally pulled apart as people fought over them. Blood was spewing everywhere. I will always remember a small boy holding a chicken head dripping blood and crying " he took my chicken" while the mother complained to the store manager who had a Les Nesman look on his face.
