I have read some opinions online blaming the "production line" aspect of a packing plant especially how close they work together and the general poor industrial hygiene in packing plants. However that just doesn't fully explain it IMO. Many industries have production lines where workers are at work stations close to one another and you are not seeing the level of outbreaks. As for the hygiene aspect, I know that USDA enforcement has been highly questionable at times and that there have been some bad actors in the industry but my perception is that the major players have substantially improved the level of house keeping at their facilities. Also, because bacterial contamination is such an industry concern, I would think their disinfection procedures and equipment would be much better equipped to deal with the virus than say one of our fire extinguisher plants. What am I missing? I must admit it's been years since I have been in a meat packing plant but I have spent a lot of time in various manufacturing plants around the world.
