Having heard from a number of fan bases that the Vols are always overrated / overhyped by the media, I wanted to see how accurate their comments are. So, with SEC Media Days coming up, let's see how the media has picked Tennessee Vs their actual performance.
Over the prior 10 years, the media has NEVER picked the Vols to win the East. In addition, they have only been correct on the Vols one time: last year when they correctly picked the Vols to finish second in the division. For the other nine times, does the media consistently overrate Tennessee?
Well, they picked them to finish higher than their actual finish (overrating them) four times. On the other hand, they picked them to finish lower than their actual results (under rating them) five times. Basically, the media (based on SEC Media Days) is slightly more likely to underestimate Tennessee than overestimate Tennessee.
Simply put, the theory of Tennessee being overrated by the Media is just not true. Unfortunately, this year they are likely to pick the Vols 1st, and the media has been wrong about Tennessee a lot over the last 10 years.
