MOBILE, Ala. - With seven players at this week’s Senior Bowl and three other top prospects sitting out or ineligible for the game for a variety of reasons, Michigan could have the biggest draft class of any school in the country this year.

And while Jim Harbaugh has rightfully received plenty of credit for Michigan’s revival, linebacker Ben Gedeon said don’t overlook the job former Wolverines coach Brady Hoke did stocking the roster with talent.

“He recruited pretty much all of us,” Gedeon said this week at the Senior Bowl. “He deserves a ton of credit. We have so much respect for him as a coach and as a man, and that’s why we came to the University of Michigan.”

Gedeon said he and several other members of Michigan’s 2017 draft class remain in touch with Hoke, who spent last season as the defensive coordinator at Oregon.

Along with Gedeon, running back De’Veon Smith, receiver Amara Darboh, offensive lineman Kyle Kalis, cornerback Jourdan Lewis and defensive linemen Ryan Glasgow and Chris Wormley took part in Senior Bowl practices this week. All were Hoke recruits.

Safety/linebacker Jabrill Peppers was not eligible to play in the Senior Bowl as an underclassmen. Tight end Jake Butt is in California rehabbing from a season-ending knee injury. And defensive end Taco Charlton declined an invitation to the game as a projected first-round pick.

All 10 players could be drafted and as many as a dozen other Michigan players could wind up in rookie camps either as undrafted rookies or late-round picks.

“It’s crazy. Unbelievable,” Gedeon said. “Again, this whole group stuck through that adversity. We didn’t have many guys transfer, which you don’t see a lot of places.”
