In reading the short article on Coach Szersen and his program, it was obvious that we are paying close attention to the details of preparing players for games. Having position-specific drills and exercises, for example, seems obvious, but it was not always so.

Teams in the Neyland era and for years after did not devote much time to weights and specific training. The last to see the benefits of strength training in particular was basketball, after Joe B. Hall made his team noticeably stronger and others followed.

When I was in high school, the News Sentinel carried a story about the Vols signing two "NFL sized" linemen from Georgia. The were 240 pounds each. Even comparatively poor teams today have big players.
