I think this year's team that is super highly rated who winds up with 2 or 3 losses or more at season's end.
Everyone is saying they will contend for a national championship because they didn't have a big drop off in 2014 or 2015 when replacing a QB . . . but they had superstar running backs who had already proven they were big time SEC backs and they had dominant offensive lines with no holes. And the candidates for starting QB were very talented. They weren't Cooper Bateman. And the running backs didn't have less than 50 career carries between them. Can Bo Scar even stay healthy for an entire season?
Alabama is the most talented team overall in the nation but as Ohio State showed us last year being the most talented doesn't necessarily get you a conference championship much less a trip to the playoff. The holes in Bama's team are significant because of where they are and there is so little difference between 11-1 and 9-4 as we learned last year. Will Bama be able to put up enough points to beat the Vols, LSU, Ole Miss, USC, A&M and Arkansas? As we learned in 2005 your defense can be amazing but if you can't put up points it is hard to beat the best teams in SEC and country.
Maybe Cooper Bateman and Bo Scharborough/Damien Harris prove me wrong and the new center and revamped offensive line will be as good or better than the 2015 version but I wouldn't bet my house on it if I had to wager. There is an awful lot of change to suggest that Bama is the best football team in the country. Perhaps they are the most talented overall but without a QB, proven Oline overall and proven running back I'll have to see it to believe it.
