When I was a kid (back in medieval times) in Texas my parents were big baseball fans. Often after dad got off work we would make the 30 minute drive to see the Class A Sherman-Denison Twins (Class A ball). On weekends it was often off to Dallas to see the Dallas Eagles (Class AA Texas League) play.

The twins ballpark had chicken wire behind home plate and down the first part of the 1st and 3rd baselines to protect fans from foul balls. Especially when players hit home runs, fans would stick rolled up dollar bills through the chicken wire for the conquering hero.

I recall a 1st baseman named Hall who hit a walk off home run in an important game as the twins were in championship contention. Fans gathered with their dollars and he went around collecting them with all the polite tanks that went with the tip. Yep, tipping in minor league ball did happen.
