***UPDATED TIDBITS***
Last meeting: Vols beat Cincinnati 7-0 on March 25th of 2015 and have won the last 11 games vs Cincy
Vols will start freshman Daniel Vasquez out of El Cajon, CA in the first midweek game of the year. Vasquez was a highly touted athlete as he entered his senior season of high school as the 25th ranked player in the entire state of California.
Quote from Serrano after returning from their 3-0 weekend in Arizona: "This team is selfless. It really is. There is no entitlement with this team. These guys are grinding for everything they want to go get. These guys are tired of losing, to be honest with you. They want to set the bar differently than anyone else has set the bar."
Fans get $1 hot dogs and $1 drinks all game long - get out there and support the boys for the home opener!!!

I am going to try to give the GQ a preview of the baseball games throughout the season. Brent and Co have made it clear that they don't intend to spend much time on baseball which is fine, but I want to create a game by game thread that should help pique some interest and get everyone involved and learn about the 2016 team. My hope is that the more we learn about the team and opponents, the more support they will get. I encourage anyone that wants to add any tidbits to the Batters Box to help themselves. If you have no interest in the baseball team we can try to contain the majority of the talk within these threads and you can ignore me or this thread - but why did you open it to begin with? Onto the BearCats...
vs. Cincinnati (0-6): Wednesday 3/2, 4pm EST
Cincinnati opened their season in Baton Rouge against an always stout LSU squad. The Box is never an easy place to play and they got swept, respectably, in a 3 game series:
Game 1: 5-6 (12 innings)
Game 2: 0-4
Game 3: 4-12
This past weekend the Bearcats traveled to a tournament in Athens and again got swept, bringing their season record to 0-6 with losses against Western Kentucky, Georgia, and South Alabama. Important to note that their loss to UGA was another extra-inning affair so they may be playing to the level of their competition. Their offense has been horrendous with only 3 regulars in the lineup hitting over .250.
Who to watch: Sr. 3B Devin Wenzel is riding a 9 game hitting streak dating back to last season.
The Vols starting pitcher has yet to be announced, but regardless of who starts we should expect Serrano to make plenty of calls to the bullpen, as is usual with most mid-week games. I would also imagine some more additions/subtractions in the lineup as Serrano continues to toy with the perfect lineup before conference plays starts up.
The Vols are off to a great start to the season with a 5-1 record and many on here may already be fully aware of their wild offensive numbers they have displayed in the first 6 games. 5 regulars are hitting over .400 led by Jeff Moberg at .556. Nick Senzel is on pace to break Todd Helton's RBI record with 15 through his first 6 games. I know it's early, but math is math right??
Unless the Vols have a meltdown on the mound their offense should continue to carry them on Werdnesday night into an important weekend trip to Greenville, NC in which they will face Maryland, East Carolina, and Southeastern Louisiana. Preview on this weekends games to come later this week...
- Tennessee leads the SEC with a .359 team batting average
- Tennessee ranks among the top 10 in the NCAA in team batting average, total runs scored, and scoring average (12 runs/game)
- Tennessee is tied for 3rd in the league with 72 runs scored
- Tennessee is 2nd in the league for most double-plays turned with 10
