SDE: Kongbo, Phillips, Butler
DT: Shy, Vickers, Picou
DT: Kahlil, A Johnson
WDE: Taylor, D Johnson
** If Phillips is healthy he will play a ton, obviously.
** We really need D Johnson and Butler to be able to compete at DE. They will play.
** If we can stay healthy, this defensive line will be pretty good.
MLB: Bituli, Kirkland, Jumper
WLB: Kirkland, McDowell
SLB: Sapp/Smith
** IMHO there is not much difference between Mike and Will in our current defense. There is no reason Kirkland cannot play will and allow Bituli to play Mike. But that all depends on Bituli showing he is too good to keep on the sidelines.
** Sapp is my Sam when we need a Sam who can play vs smaller personnel packages. The Sam replaces the nickel so he would be a DJ Swearinger type player in space.
** Smith is my Sam when it is likely the Sam will be on the LOS vs a TE. He could also do some Maggitt stuff and play some DE, if we are able to be that multiple.
CB: Wiggins, Moseley, Shamburger/Labruzza
CB: Martin, Osborne
N: Gaulden, Osborne? Gray?
S: Warrior, Abernathy
S: Kelly, Berry
** Moseley is probably the true 3rd CB, unless Osborne can pass him up, which would be nice.
** Really interested to see what we do behind Gaulden at Nickel. A lot of different directions to go, and the skill set of that player dictates a lot of what you can or cannot do schematically.
** I look for TK to have a nice year. It is a contract year for him (Wiggins and Martin also) and guys typically play well when it's their last shot at making some money.
** Warrior has to figure it out. I have it on good authority that are major concerns about his ability to play the game between his ears...
** Gaulden might be the best player on the field for this defense (not saying that's a bad thing).
