Remember he was the one that promoted Randy Sanders to OC and even though he was clearly over his head and he kept him for 7 years. That decision alone dragged the program down miles. He wouldn't replace assistants that were getting killed on the recruiting trail and we slowly slipped from top 5 to top 25. Then with his job on the line he hires the most anemic OC in the country in Dave Clawson. Phil is a great ambassador for the University of Tennessee and personally have met him and really like him. Very very Charasmatic but not cut throat and to be a successful AD you must make the tough decisions.
