As things have taken hold this year I think a few things have become clear. I think early in the year every single coach regardless of sport doesn't just hand the keys over to newcomers especially when some older guys can really play and waited their turn.
At this point no one is a "newcomer" when we are 24 games in. Everything is more equal now.
Your thoughts on the following guys.... They have to play somewhere at this point right?
Seth Stephenson - Game changing speed and a guy who is barreling the baseball. His range in LF is elite as well.
Christian Moore light tower power. 8 HRs in 16 games and not all of those were starts (think about that ratio). He hit a HR yesterday 444 feet straight through a strong wind. How does he not play? He is also showing he is more reliable in the field than Ortega at 2nd. At least so far. He is already pretty advanced in the batters box as well.
Blake Burke is the DH. 100% clear. When he is in the box it is just different. His ABs, demeanor and presence screams big timer. Obviously power wise it is pretty insane. He is also a lefty to help with balance. I think he will be a middle of the order bat by the time NCAAT comes around.
Can you take them out of the lineup?
Where does that leave Dickey (when healthy), Ortega, Booker? I am not sure but at this point I don't think you can reasonably keep those 3 above out of the lineup. The talent is overwhelming and the production is there. They are no longer "new" guys who have to earn their stripes like they did early this year.
Also... Logan Steenstra he made 2 absolutely insane plays at SS last night and made another one at the end of one of the Ole Miss games. Kid can hit as well. Lawson and Ortega have made some errors somewhat consistently... Something to keep an eye on.
