@Ben_McKee
IMO it flew under the radar but Tony V's comments on Lipscomb and Moore were pretty shocking.
Trey Lipscomb- Tony said that "“The guy can play the position just as well as he can third. He can also play on the right side too. But he’s one of the better left side infielders in the entire country.”
That is a pretty systemic comment if a bat like Trey can be a plus defender at SS.
It is so huge because...
Christian Moore- “He sees the ball as well as any hitter we have on our team as far as what’s balls and strikes, where to hit the baseball, what’s going on with the spin and all those things. He’s competitive and gifted in that area.”
A freshman that talented with an approach that is the most advanced on the team is pretty wild.
Tony doesn't do a ton of coach speak but sounds like Moore is that dude and the coaches think Trey Lipscomb (who can absolutely mash) is a plus defender at SS.
In the process of Moore getting disciplined Ortega showed that his bat plays and he has crazy pop. Ortega can play 2nd, 1st or DH.
The talent is wild on this team. Stephenson, Chambers, Booker, Steenstra, and Lawson are fighting for ABs because Ortega can absolutely crush the ball and can play all 4 IF spots.
Ben with those quotes is it safe that Moore starts at 3rd and Lipscomb is the SS to maximize the lineup and apparently defense if Trey is that good at SS?
