Best thing Butch can do over next month is to make John Kelly into a star....

...as much as one can pull off in 5 games.

Butch certainly needs to win the games for sure (and we can) but he also needs to make people forget about the Hurd transfer as much as possible and change the narrative through November about the program (especially on the recruiting trail).

He cannot undo the SC loss or the Hurd transfer, but he can feed the ball to JK 30 times a game over the next 5 games and run him into a little bit of a household name. The guy can easily break some of those carries for 30-50 yard runs and could conceivably end up a 1,000 yard rusher, or close to it, and a late season success story. All of the defenses we play (except for Vandy) specialize in giving up chunk plays on the ground.

We keep winning, and the narrative will slowly turn to what Kelly can do next year as the full time "man" as opposed to what just happened at RB in 2016. Some might even speculate that Hurd left mid season because of how good Kelly was.

Everyone will slowly forget about Hurd.

And the same goes for Byrd, Calloway, Jennings and Johnson.... get them established so people are talking up 2017.

It's not the position anyone wanted to be in (everyone is frustrated with another wait until next year) but our only way to really live to fight another day is to get to 10 wins this season (which Butch can sell as continued improvement), get our top 15 recruiting class, and get some optimism going on into 2017.

I know it is Tennessee Tech, but the national blurb about our program on Sunday morning needs to be a ridiculous stat line for John Kelly....something over 200 yards and a few scores. It is only slightly less important than winning, in my opinion.
