The Tennessee Vols are squarely in the mix to land one of the nation’s top-rated 2022 recruits.
Four-star running back Branson Robinson, 5-foot-10/220 lbs from Madison, MS (Germantown), has an impressive list of suitors.
Alabama, Clemson, and LSU — the last three national champions — are among the programs pursuing Robinson.
It’s Georgia and Tennessee, however, that are the programs most likely to land the nation’s No. 4 rated running back.
“It’s a pretty close race between Georgia and Tennessee,” said Robinson recently to 247Sports. “Both are doing a good job staying on top of me and recruiting me but of all the schools I’d say them two stick out the most.”
Earlier this month, Robinson, who is rated as the No. 57 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class (247Sports composite), spoke glowingly of the Vols’ future under new head coach Josh Heupel.
“Tennessee’s future is so bright now and in my opinion, in a few years they will be playing for (a spot in the) College Football Playoff,” said Robinson to Rivals.
Part of the reason Robinson has the Vols high on his list is his relationship with Heupel and running backs coach Jerry Mack.
“Coach Mack, me and him can relate a lot. He’s not from Mississippi but he has a lot of kinfolk in Mississippi I know of,” explained Robinson. “He knows the area. He does a great job recruiting and always shows interest”.
“Coach (Josh) Heupel he’s a great guy,” added Robinson. “I love the way he wants to take care of his players and the relationship he has with his players and we’re not just talking about football all the time, just life in general.”
Robinson will take an official visit to Tennessee on June 25. He’s expected to make a decision after his official visits.
