There are a lot better head coaches than Butch Jones X and O wise. I'll throw a few names out there like Mike Riley or Mark Dantonio or Jim Mcelwain. But there is no chance any of those guys would've assembled the talent we have here. I don't care who the coach is, if you don't have the players in this league you won't win.
I truly believe Butch can win here but HE has to change. And I understand it is very tough for him to do so. He's gotten this far doing it one way. He's been successful in the MAC and the Big East but the SEC is a different animal, we all know that. He is so tightly wound I truly believes it rubs off on the players. The players will always take on the personality of the coach.
If Butch can surround himself with the best recruiters and position coaches and delegate responsibilities, and not put so much pressure on himself I think he can last here. If he tries to micro manage, stick with his guys, and let his ego get in the way he just won't last here. As Brad Pitt said in Moneyball, "Adapt or Die".
Recruiting is where it starts though. I've seen enough evidence that he is a closer. Get some more guys in here that can do the same and it can work out.
