CBJ subscribes wholeheartedly to the Energy Bus "positive" thoughts only philosophy. He put the fan base on full alert when he took the job that the Energy Bus and Jon Gordon are his influences and is the fundamental approach to all that he does. I have not read all of the book, but at least more than half. I get the gist of it. Basically, it speaks to being positive in all that you do and think, no matter the circumstance. Butch takes the positive energy only approach a bit too far to the extreme. I get wanting to surround yourself with positive people and thoughts, but there comes a time when it appears he is more concerned with "protecting" his players and trying to make a positive spin on very bad failures than recognize these failures and truly own it. What drives this fan base bat sh8 crazy is that CBJ preaches so much positive spin and will never admit failure because he sees it as being negative. That is when the "Champions of Life" comments start to slip out. He thinks he is being positive (which he is) but he just can't allow himself to recognize failures publicly (i.e PC's) because it goes against all that he preaches and believes. I dont know what the answer is. Butch will not change this fundamental philosophy he has built everything around. It drives me nuts too and I try to be positive in all that I do too. Regardless, this fan base is at a cross roads with Butch. I am not writing him off in any way. I fully support him still. I dont agree with some things he does, but he has done alot of great things for the program in the past 4 years. This off season will be the biggest self evaluation CBJ has ever faced in his career. I hope he can evaluate himself and the program honestly and make what changes are needed to turn it around next season. His positive spin on everything wont be one of the changes. Butch is who he is.
