So married to an offensive system and coaching philosophy, that he is too stubborn to change.

Look at Shoop. I don't know for sure about the kinds of defenses he ran at Vandy and Penn St. but to me this years D looked a lot like last years D.

Base defense was basically a nickel last year and this year.

Same with the offense. I don't remember Michigan being a spread, but maybe I'm wrong. The offense didn't change much with a coaching change. Still basically looks the same as it did.

Here in is the underlying theme of Butch's problem, he is not going to change or adjust to win.

He is simply going to line his guys up and pray we win the one on one match ups.

The great coaches do this as well, BUT they also put in wrinkles and nuances to take advantage of the opposing teams weaknesses. On defense you try to adjust to cover up your weaknesses and then adjust as the game goes on.

This is the failure of Butch Jones, it's his system and if you're going to coach for him you better do it his way.

One thing can be said about Little Nicky down to the south, he is in charge but he lets his coaches coach.

I mean German's
but Hitler lost the war because he lead from a bunker and never listened to anybody else. Allies won because Eisenhower allowed those leaders below him to adjust to the battle field in front of them. Does anybody see Rommel in all of this.
