Deboard excites no one but Butch is running the program and he know what he wants and values.. If he hires Deboard as OC , he runs the risk that he has been away too long and is not current. Butch is surely aware of that. He is not going to risk his own position by doing an old coach a favor in the form of the OC position. It is too important. He would think he is the best guy looking at the big picture.
I 'd like somebody new and fresh but there is risk there as the Clawson experiment proved. Clawson is a good coach but he didn't fit with what Phil wanted. Butch seems to prize compatibility of the staff above almost anything else. That might not be wise but he is the CEO and he will be the one that ultimately benefits or is hurt by the decision.
I think a Deboard hire slow down the positive PR vibes but as I recall so did nearly all the hires on his first staff with the exception of Jay Graham. . Those guys have turned out OK.
