We know how it turned out, but it was the commitment from 5* in state Hurd that we were all hearing was not that interested in the Vols and Ohio St. had inside track among others. Then he jumped on board with Butch. It started to turn the fanbase toward backing this guy with a so-so history at Cincinnati that maybe he could get it done at UTK. Others followed. That "first" class, the one that was his, was the reason for the optimism as his first season showed a few signs of decency and the late emergence of Dobbs at qb.
Pruitt needs that guy. Someone to really jumpstart the recruiting momentum. We have a few solid commitments but not the type of guy that gets everyone else's attention. I thought Howell might have had that chance, but we didn't really pursue. Crouch/Wright would certainly qualify but neither will do anything early. I thought Morris was our best chance. Wrong again. He needs something to get the fanbase to start to believe. Woodi Washington, maybe big enough name to get at least the Wilhoite, other instate guys to get some momentum.
Maybe it will be a 2020 qb. Something is sure needed though. And "waiting for wins" is lame and not going to get it done, since everyone knows this fall isn't going to be anything better than .500.
