Dear Facebook, I know. But this still haunts me to this day.
My neighbor in 2002 that lived across the street was a ND grad and a bit of a douche, but we golfed all the time and we both loved college football.
I had been pumping him for years about how great Neyland was, awesome experience, etc. So when Miami came to Knoxville in 2002, he just happened to have a friend who was the equipment manager for the Hurricane's and he could get tickets on the front row behind the Tennessee bench.
So we planned this for like 6 months. Rented an RV for he and I and 5 more of our buddies to go to Miami/UT game. I was psyched out of my mind.
Anywho, the wife was pregnant at the time, but wasn't due until late November. I believe this game was in early November.
This dude was a degenerate, so we had a full day planned on Friday.....drive down to Lexington, golf that day, then titty bars that nigh, casino then game on Saturday.
Game was at 3:30 so tailgating would be epic.
So the RV arrives IN MY DRIVEWAY on Thursday night, our friends are in town and we proceed to gamble/play cards and drink in the RV all night on Thursday.
Only problem was, the wife started having contractions that night, THREE WEEKS before her due date. Panic ensued from me....
I can go to a trip of a lifetime with these dudes and see Miami in Neyland (Dorsey, McGahee, Andre Johnson, Frank Gore, Sean Taylor, etc) or stay back in case the wife went into labor and I'm five hours away.....I researched every option for a quick rental car, flight out of Knoxville if she went into labor, you name it. But if I missed his birth, I would never hear the end of it.
So I do the right thing, much to my chagrin and stay back as I walk these dudes through everything to check out....golf in Lexington, strip club, where to tailgate the next day, the Vol Walk, Big Orange tailgate, the strip on Cumberland, Vol Navy, the whole nine yards....
I was beyond livid watching the game on TV next day, as this guy was a bit of a douche and rubbed it in hard about all the shit they were doing and how awesome it was (he wasn't married at the time and had no kids or concerns for anyone but himself)....
So he's calling me Friday night to tell me about the strip club, they were chilling in RV playing poker, getting hammered, even had a stripper come hang out in the RV with them after the club closed. They had an awesome time.
On Saturday, after a big play on the field he would call me from his seats behind the bench and it was so loud in the background, I couldn't even hear him. He said is was the best college football atmosphere he's ever seen, and dude was an entitled douche that thought ND was the end all/be all.
Fast forward, wife was fine for the next 3 weeks (of course) and contractions stopped and she had my now 18 year old son late November like predicted. To this day, I'm am pissed that I missed that trip.
Story of my life.
I'll KMS now, thanks
