As far as the slugging C/1B Kole Cottam goes, he's big (6'3, 225 lbs) and hits for power 16 homeruns and 42 RBI this season alone. Also has a .356 BA. Why isn't he a Vol? He's from Knoxville and went to Catholic High School.
He's gone from Starkville (Mississippi State) now, but last year OF Brent Rooker of Germantown, TN, hit .387 with 23 homeruns, 82 RBI. He had good size too at 6'4, 220 lbs.
Our state produces the talent. You have to keep it here though. What if we had Cottam and Rooker in the same lineup? You're talking 39 homeruns and 124 RBI just between the two of them. We barely hit 39 homeruns as a team over the last 2 years.
