“I had to then take an almost 100% complete back seat as far as recruiting was involved,” Mrs. Colson explained. “Because to be fair, you just have to take that neutral position. It’s just like, ‘(Junior), you have to pick the school is the right fit for you, not the school that I love.’”
From that point on she has gone out of her way to not tip the scales in any school’s favor. The same goes for dad and the rest of the family. They’ve let it be known they’ll support whatever schools Colson ultimately selects.
“Our (message) is pretty much the same for any of the schools,” Mrs. Colson said. “’We don’t really care where you play on Saturdays, and we don’t really care how expensive it is to get there. We’re going to be there. And that’s really pretty much that simple. We’ll find a way to get there. I have plenty of vacation time, so if I have to take Friday off to drive or to fly that’s just what we’re going to do.”
Tennessee is working hard to make those weekend trips as short as possible. His bond with the staff in Knoxville is a major lure.
“The linebacker coach is great,” Mrs. Colson said. “I know he’s only going to be at school for three or four years, but I certainly don’t want him with a coach that I think they’re going to (clash). And I feel like the linebacker coach is probably a really good fit for Junior.”
