With NSD is less than 48 hours away, it's a mad scramble for schools and prospects alike. There's a lot of uncertainty right now with parents, players, assistants, etc., but the next 24 hours is when most decisions are made.
Tennessee had a crazy Sunday, getting positive vibes from 5-star corner Isaac Taylor-Stuart while seeing its newly-prized receiver commit shutdown communication following a rumored flip to FSU.
I know a lot of folks feel like the sky is falling, but the fat lady hasn't sung just yet. We've done our best to not sugarcoat anything and bring y'all the most accurate and honest information. Is Tennessee going to close with a bang? Right now, I'd say no, but that doesn't mean the Vols are going to completely swing and miss either. Don't discount a surprise or two. You don't get any bonus points for being the bridesmaid in recruiting, but the new staff hasn't been afraid to chase the best prospects available. No one, including folks in the Anderson building, know exactly how it's going to shake out Wednesday. Ideally, we'll have a much clearer picture tomorrow afternoon/evening.
With that, here's some quick notes/updates on a few Tennessee targets from Jesse and Austin.
* We're hearing more and more Texas A&M scuttle around Glenn Beal. Vols still right in the mix, but adding Alabama to the equation has muddled the waters for Beal. Aggies seem to be trending here.
* Not a lot of chatter on Quay Walker after his UGA visit. Word is that he knew beforehand Kirby was going to watch Otis Reese play a basketball game in South Georgia on Saturday night, and he spent that time with players like Fields and Jackson. No school is confident which way Walker will go Wednesday. Right now, I still think Tennessee holds the upper hand, but apparently Alabama is back in the picture as a potential landing spot.
* Like most prospects (Coynis Miller notwithstanding), Isaac Taylor-Stuart had a fantastic OV. Tennessee is a legitimate threat here, as the 5-star CB prefers to play in the SEC and was impressed with Pruitt and Fair's ability to develop and coach DBs. A new development here as well is the fact that USC may have a numbers crunch. I wasn't aware of this information until Sunday night, but now Farrell and others have reported it. How will this impact ITS? He already had limited options. Alabama can't be discounted because that was once his top school and his favorite position coach from Texas A&M is now with the Tide. But like USC, it also has a numbers issue — one Tennessee could benefit from.
* Meanwhile, Tennessee continues to have dialogue with Taiyon Palmer. The CB visited with a couple UT assistants Friday. He didn't take an OV anywhere this weekend. N.C. State remains the likely choice, but the Vols are still in the conversation days before NSD.
* The WR board was shaken up Sunday with Jordan Young going silent after his OV to FSU. Tennessee went in-home with Young last week in hopes of him shutting down his recruitment, but the Noles were persistent and got him on campus. The Vols are not confident they can hold onto the Peach State receiver. They offered Cedric Tillman on Sunday, with the Las Vegas WR telling VolQuest.com that Tennessee wants him to take an OV after the NSD dead period. The Vols really like Tillman's size and skill-set. He's a legit 6-4 guy who ran a laser-timed 4.6. He had 14 touchdowns as a senior.
* No new update right now on Otito Ogbonnia coming off his Nebraska visit.
