As of 2017, that population was 8.623 Million (It has certainly risen since). With that figure, that would be between 3,449,200 and 6,898,400. At 5 % hospitalization rate that’s between 172,460 - 344,920. That’s before deducting for the average 1% mortality rate which would almost certainly explode (rendering the original figure useless) because no health care system in the world could match that demand for treatment.
The main variable is the time it takes to reach infection rates that are even fractionally as bad. That can’t be determined because it is dictated by how successful they are at mitigating transmissions. Here’s to hoping they are flattening the sh!t out of that curve.
