He was honored as an All-American in volleyball and was instrumental in bringing to Knoxville and Alumni Gynmasium (where the Vols played basketball before Stokely), a USVBA national tournament in the 1960s, which he directed. He attended every home football game in 1939 and watched the Vols hold every opponent scoreless the entire regular season. He took my Mom to New Orleans for their honeymoon and watched the Vols in the Sugar Bowl New Years Day 1941. I still sit in section V in the seats where Dad first took me to Shields-Watkins over 50 years ago. He passed in 1990.
