Knoxville, Tenn. – July 8, 2016 – On Thursday, July 14, the public is invited to Thompson-Boling Arena on the campus of the University of Tennessee for the Pat Summitt: Celebration of Life service. Admission is free, with the event set to begin at 7:00 p.m. ET. Attendees are asked to be seated and silence their cell phones by 6:30 p.m so the program can begin promptly at 7:00 p.m.
Doors to the arena will open to the public at 5:30 p.m ET and the general public may enter through Gates B, C, D & E with the usual ADA entrances also available. Due to construction on and around campus, guests are encouraged to arrive early.
We understand that those typically attending athletic events at Thompson-Boling Arena are accustomed to following guidelines that are standard for sporting events. While Thursday's Celebration of Life event is taking place in a UT athletic venue, it's important to remember that it is not a sporting event. It is the Summitt family's public memorial for a loved one.
In consideration of other guests, no signs will be allowed in the arena. Additionally, no photography of any kind will be permitted during the event. The public may view the official event photos in a gallery on utsports.com following the service.
Live video streaming of any kind will be prohibited inside Thompson-Boling Arena on the day of the service (no Periscope, Facebook Live, etc).
For those unable to attend, the service will be streamed live on utsports.com and patsummitt.org. The event is slated to be televised nationally on ESPN2 and SEC Network, and several local TV stations throughout the state also are expected to carry the event.
Parking for this event is free. All guests planning to park in the G-10 garage are encouraged to enter off of Neyland Drive. Also, the University of Tennessee will provide free shuttles from the Ag Campus off Neyland Drive to and from Thompson-Boling Arena. The shuttle will begin at 4:30 p.m. prior to the event and will run one-hour after. Shuttle pickup on the Ag Campus is located off Joe Johnson Drive. There will be shuttles offered that are fully accessible to those with disabilities.
In addition to G-10 and the Ag Campus, other lots available for public parking include: C-1 on Todd Helton Dr.; C-15 on Neyland Dr. across from UT Rowing; G-1 (McClung Garage); G-2 (McClung Garage); G5/30 @ Andy Holt Tower; G-11 (Lake Avenue Garage); G-12 (White Avenue Garage); G-13 (11th Street Garage); S22 Todd Helton Dr. & Volunteer Blvd.; S23 @ Music Building & Theater and S25 across from Aquatics Center.
