@Ben_McKee I think that you're taking too much from Gabriel in being concerned about this comments. First, just ignoring the Malzahn stuff, we all know why he was fired. It was because of his awful offense and his inability to develop QB's. So whatever positive he's saying about Malzahn in comparison, grade of slaw as they say. You said this on the show today so obviously you know this.
But need I remind you, even if those things were true about the defense being in a different alignment than they predicted 8 out of 10 games.. okay? Heupel had the number 1 offense in college football last year so in those games, guess what? His offense still worked. The only team that slowed down his offense last year was BYU in the bowl game... a game that UCF didn't even practice for because of Covid.
Gabriel also brought up the GT game and tried to criticize Heupel's game plan on offense. Uh... UCF put up 660 yards of offense in that game. Gabriel had 417 yards passing and four touchdowns. Why should they change things when they're having that success? Those comments don't make sense. Do what's working unless they stop it.
Anyway, Heupel's offense may have trouble unless he adapts, but I find it strange that Gabriel is complaining about the offense that led the country last year and is responsible for him putting up video game numbers. To me it seems like he's just bitter about Heupel leaving.
