I keep reading derogatory remarks about her, some thinly disguised sexist remarks. Give her a break. She did not create the timing of the AD situation, nor the timing of her hire. She can hire a dozen academic busts and hardly anyone would notice, and there would not be a comment on VQ. Composts, no comments from Brent, nothing.

She is not even on the job and is being criticized. The AD is going to be the most visible hire that UT is going to make in the foreseeable future, and certainly will be the most discussed. If she does not want to or does not have input she will be accused of lack of leadership. If she does get involved but has to wait to actually get on board and to find someone she is comfortable with, she is accused of dragging her feet. This old hire the guy and be done with it mentality is not the way to run an organization. But she seems smart enough to know this one is being watched carefully. Yes, UT has probably botched the process, but that was done before she became involved.

Too, who knows what is going on behind the scenes. How much are the BOT and big donors (can be both) playing out in all this? Almost everyone on this board would give a new coach an opportunity to prove themselves. We don't evaluate their performance before the take the job. Another thing, UT is not a particularly attractive job--yes, I will argue that one with you. There is more micro-managing than with most BO,T and look at our instability over the years. For the position, we don't pay shit. Harris Pastides at USCe gets over twice the UT salary, for example.

I don't know if she is the right person to lead UT or not, but she does have guts to take a big pay cut and come here. And the fact that she is a woman, or not a UT grad, does not mean that she cannot and does not have the ability to understand the role UT athletics play in the grand scheme of things. Give her the same consideration you would the person you would have chosen. She deserves our support.
