I've never read much on other fan sites, but based on the UT sites I've read over the years, I assume most fan sites are similarly staffed by a majority of writers who historically followed/rooted for that program, and/or are alumni - not always, of course, but typically.
If that's true, I would think that if a given recruit developh a good rapport with, for example, Austin Price, it could potentially help influence the recruit to go to UT. And if Austin were an unethical person, he could manipulate that situation a bit and nudge the recruit toward choosing UT.
Doubt it's a big factor, if much at all. But I have wondered before whether such relationships could influence recruits, as it seems the reporters and recruits are often pretty chummy.
