to make a comeback.
In 1930, we had 7 million family owned farms and now there are roughly 2 million left with 300 farms closing each week. Big agricultural has lobbied and played unfair.
The only hope for the local farmer is for local populations to buy locally at farmers markets. There are also now (although few, but hopefully trending) local farmer business hubs where small farmers can sale directly to these hubs and support themselves directly without having to deal with the public.
Farmers markets are also key.
Rural America has to take a local approach in everything.
Local restaurants (not chain restaurants)
General stores not wal mart
Hotels not Marriotts
Local grocery stores not food city, Kroger
Local mechanics not wal mart
Local gas stations not pilot
Yes, the popular chain brands will continue to do well no matter what but if people want to keep wealth in their communities it has to be a local concentrated effort.
