Rocky Top is unique. It began as a bluegrass song, but I first heard the band arrangement at the Notre Dame basketball game in the NCAA tournament in Murfreesboro in Don DeVoe's first year as coach. The crowd spontaneously began singing the refrain in unison and never turned back. It is about pride and love of place.
The best true fight song is subject to debate and opinion, but I have always liked LSU's, and the way it builds to a climax with their fans joining in. Auburn's is great as well. I don't know (or care to find out) their names or lyrics.
The worst? That is easy. Vanderbilt's "Dynamite" is an absolutely pathetic, limp wristed whine of a song. I spent three years in law school there and cringed every time I heard it.
