If you were building a large addition & renovating the existing house, including replacing the new unit, & wanted the best residential hvac units (quality, reliability, etc) for the money, which manufacturer would you recommend? Trane, Carrier, Rheem, American Std, Ruud or others?
My understanding from talking with HVAC contractors over the years in my work (I'm an architect), that there are only about six different HVAC equipment manufacturers in the U.S. today, but they operate under more than 150 brand names:
• Lennox, Armstrong and Concord (same mfr)
• Trane and American Standard (same mfr)
• Carrier, Payne, Bryant and Tempstar (same mfr)
• York, Lux and Coleman (same mfr)
• Goodman and Amana (same mfr)
In the process of finishing the drawings for a large addition & renovation that i designed for some good friends and was curious what GQ hvac guys opinion was. Money/cost is an issue (always seems to be, lol). I've previously had bad experience (personally & professionally) with Amana & York. Had good luck with Carrier & Trane, but can be expensive, relatively.
Thanks in advance.
