Would you have been willing to pay him ~$1.5 million and the $1.3 million buyout to Louisville?
I will admit the rope is getting shorter for Holly but I think the biggest reasons for the extension now are:
1 - Need to fix football before anything else and no need for other distractions at this time
2 - Strong incoming recruiting class that complements the current Freshman class very well
3 - No clear-cut candidate stands out as immediate upgrade - I am not sure Walz would have left Louisville even if offered the same or more money - he has a really strong returning team in 18-19
The Lady Vols will likely be a preseason Top 10 team next year and if they don't achieve at a high level next year then the discussion will likely be very different.
