I am very sorry to lose a player of that calibur and think he has a chance to be a fine college FB player perhaps even better. I hate the cut throatness that is a part of recruiting. But what or the options? You can keep every player who verbals and there is a virtual certainy that some won't qualify, some will look elsewhere, and you end up SHORT. Aother truth is you can not take commitments early in the cycle because you think you can do better and invarably you are going to come up short. Additionally you can look at early projections as the gospel and never adjust as recruits rise and fall. And finally you can continue to whine and complain because you can't quite compete with the teams that as harsh as it may be fully understand the realities of successful recruiting. There is NO middle ground, unfortunately you either come up short in both #s and quality or you are in various degrees realistic and ruthless. Not saying which is right, just stating what is true.
