From what I can tell, CBJ and the staff may have played the big loss perfectly with recruits.

Having read several recruiting stories from different sites, it seems that a number of the recruits came out of the loss with this response:

I have a chance to play early because the Vols need to get more playmakers on the field.

Going into this season, I didn't think the Vols could go 5-2 (with a strong possibility of going 10-2) and sell early playing time to recruits, but it looks like that is the case. In addition, since few Official Visits were used, a lot of the top players can still come back. I'm not saying this was the ideal outcome in front of top recruits, but it appears to have been handled well by the coaching staff.
