Clippers clean up first batch of monthly awards
With the Clippers’ impressive — and unexpected — success to start the season, Tobias Harris (Western Conference Player of the Month) and Doc Rivers (Western Conference Coach of the Month) each earned the West’s respective monthly awards just hours before tipoff. The only award the team didn’t win was Western Conference Rookie of the Year, which went to Dallas’ Luka Doncic, the Rookie of the Year frontrunner.
The Clippers’ monthly honors were well-deserved. Rivers is on the short list of early Coach of the Year candidates, and Harris looks like an All-Star and a Most Improved Player candidate.
Harris’ award came as more of a surprise. He had to compete with the likes of Anthony Davis, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, James Harden and Damian Lillard, among a slew of other West elites. Most of those guys have more impressive per-game numbers and advanced stats, but Harris’ team played the best. And he was its primary offensive option.
