Gov. Bill Haslam supports University of Tennessee President Joe DiPietro's decision to fire Beverly Davenport from her chancellor role, and he is not a candidate to replace DiPietro, he said.
It's widely known DiPietro will retire soon, although he has not set a date.
The Republican governor wraps up his two terms in office in January.
“I can assure everyone now that I am not going to be the next president of the University of Tennessee. It’s not something I’m interested in, nor do I think I’d be the right person. We’ll find the right person to be the next president of the University of Tennessee, but it won’t be me," said Haslam
