732 yards in 4 games, and we played one game the team didn't bring a defense with them. It's a total of 183 yards per game.. Unbelievable. If you take away Dobbs' and the running backs yards, you have a total of 618 for an average of 154.5 per contest. I'll go ne further, take away the tight ends, and you have a whopping total of 485 yards for an average of 121 per game. really sad.. Ethan Wolf leads this team in receiving with 126 yards in 4 games for a total of 31.5 yards per game. Not bad. Let's get deeper..
If you are Von Pearson, or Pig Howard, looking to make it to the league, what would have been your personal goal this year? For the sake of this exercise, let's assume they are team oriented and team goal first kinda guys. They are for the team, but as far as personal goals, especially for a senior, who needs a little help to make it, what would be your goals?
40 catches? 600+ yards? 4-8 td's? Would those be fair goals for our 2 biggest weapons last year? Obviously they aren't stupid and see the INSANE amount of talent in their position groups, so to expect a whole lot more probably wouldn't be wise for them. Anyway, now, 4 games in, and let's take a look at their stats last year compared to this...
Pig in 2014 54 catches for 618 and 1 TD. admittedly a little short on Td's, but he was usually the guy that got us in position for someone else to score.
Von in 2014 38 for 393 and 5 Td's
So, it wouldn't be crazy to expect 40 catches with 600 or more yards and 4-8 scores a piece.
Here are their stats this year..
Pig (obviously the suspension and injury hurt, but it seems something else may be an issue, and how hard would you work to get back if you were a receiver in this offense?) 2015 1 for 8 and 0 Td's
Von in 2015 3 for 57 and 0 Td's
As a group in 2015 let's look at their stats, but first let's look at some pertinent numbers from this group.
WR'S as a whole there are 2-5*, 4-4*, 2-3*, a 1 walk on. Obviously this is counting tight ends.
A lot of talent I think we'd all agree.. Since Butch and his staff have been coaching Tennessee, there are only 2 of these guys who have had a game with 100 or more receiving yard. 2 in 29 months. Only 2. They are Pig in 2013 Georgia, and Marquez in 2013 SCAR. Think about that, and let it marinate for a minute.
Obviously the O line getting fixed, or at least a shot in the arm would help, but it seems to me the biggest issue is the guy coaching those guys. Really hard to defend him when you take a look at the numbers. Steadily gotten worse since his arrival.. Butch will have to give this a hard look in the off season.
Listen, with an absolutely ATROCIOUS passing attack, we are still literally 2 plays away from being 4-0 and ranked in the top 10.. It literally is CRAZY how close we are. Dang we are on the CUSP.
We have steadily improved rushing the ball, and that is the reason for success in scoring more. Wouldn't you agree? Welcome any comments or questions.
