I'm tired of being pissed off, depressed, and hopeless. It is what it is and being pissed isn't going to change anything.
CJH has proven to me, thru 4 games, that he can coach. He and his staff are putting our kids in the right places to make plays. They simply aren't executing because we lack talent. We must upgrade our roster. I also know that it's going to get worse (2022) before it gets better.
The investigation lingers because we're trying to do it the right way. DW and our leaders do not want this to linger for 3-4 years. DW stated this at the Rotary Club last month. Rather, we're trying to get this resolved by being totally transparent with the inept/slow NCAA so we can get this put to bed. Short term pain for long term gain.
We'll hit the portal hard to try and find the pieces needed to field a competitive team. No, we're not going to beat the big boys, but we're capable, despite the obstacles, of assembling a roster that can start consistently beating the little 4 in our division. For the next several years, 7-5 or 8-4 is the goal. We have to get there before we can ascend higher.
IMO, the portal is not a long term solution. Short term, we have no choice, but it'll take 5 or 6 years to augment our roster with quality HS kids. We must develop them, and keep them in the fold. No, we're not going to beat the big boys in many recruiting battles, but we don't have to. Beating the little 4 is our goal.
I'm really impressed with the culture CJH is building. I like the positivity and family vibes. Yesterday, despite our lack of talent and stupid mistakes, we kept fighting until the end. Completely different feeling than our last 3 losers.
I'll make the trip from Charlotte for the SC game. Win or lose, I'm going to enjoy my time in Neyland, with family and friends, and probably drink too many beers. Good times will return, just not right away. We have a brand, resources, and great fans. We'll be back. No one, including me, wants to accept it, but patience is required.
GO BIG ORANGE!!!!
