Let me say first of all I was at the game and haven’t re watched yet. So live and highlights are all I’ve seen.
High 5
1. Got to start with the student section , they’ve taken their fair share of shots on here. They were exceptional last night. Showed up and showed up early.
2. Defense flying to the football. Bowling Green actually made some tough throws and catches and we still had a great night on the defensive side of the ball. Questions remain for sure but impressed for game 1 with the speed and execution.
3. Running backs , both are tough hard runners. Wish we had a bigger back and I like Evans a tad bit better but both are serviceable.
4. Special teams
Great night on kicks and returns. I’d like to see the kickoff team cover a little better ,saw a couple gaps there last night.
5. I like Heupel , thought he was honest and could hear some disappointment in him last night in the postgame. Love honesty from a head coach.

1. No doubt it’s the QB position :
He wasn’t bad at all for a quarter; then the last 3 ………. Uggggghhhhh awful!
Can he get better ? If he can’t TN Tech will likely be his last start. Big game next week , he’s got to be more decisive and get the ball out quicker and more accurate. The last 3 quarters were tough to watch from that position. I thought his play really put a damper on the night.
2. WR play , no they didn’t get a lot of help from 7. They also didn’t help themselves with drops, not much separation and didn’t block great. Much to improve on going into week 2.
3. We aren’t bad at LB or OL but those 2 spots we have glaring depth issues to me. We have 3 LBs at most it looks like, Beasley is serviceable but after that we look very thin there.
3B where was Dayne Davis ? After Cooper M went down I think we all thought it would be Davis and he appeared to think this as well. Looked as if he headed in only to be brought back in favor of O. Lane. Not sure how Ollie performed but he hasn’t been mentioned much at all in the preseason or spring.
4. Speaking of missing where is Dee Beckwith ? We played 4 RBs and no sight of him. If he can’t play there surely a position change is coming shortly!
5. Basically our best offensive player didn’t play well , and our best defensive player we think is ineligible. How long before we see Byron Young and how good is he ? I thought Baron played really well last night and if we can get play from Young like we’ve heard (and the LBers stay healthy ) the defense could really be a surprise for us.
Huge game next Saturday at noon, can’t wait!
