Huge get for the Vols as an in state kid who grew up a fan of the program and has size, power and the ability to stretch the field with hands that don’t require a ton of separation. He had 25 catches for 381 yards and most importantly 9 touchdowns (a crazy ratio) as a junior to help Hardin County reach the Class 4A state quarterfinals in 2019.
A lot pointed to Ohio State during the spring and there were rumors of a commitment but I hear he got turned off a bit when they tried to squeeze him and the Vols approach was always straight forward and patient. And he liked the way the Vols utilize the tight end or bigger receivers more and the depth chart situation is ideal. But again, this was a kid who grew up a fan of the program and was tempted by Alabama and Ohio State and others and Pruitt won out.
Off the field, he’s a standout student who boasts a 4.0 GPA and is a high character kid who will be a team leader down the line and will help recruit future players.
We have him rated very high because he has shown the skills to play as a flex tight end but he’s also a very willing and capable blocker and he has a great frame and elite hands. He’s not a freak athlete but he has that knack for getting open and getting a step on opponents and he attacks the ball. He just has a feel for where the open space is if that makes sense. If a comparison were to be made to an ex Vol it would clearly be Jason Witten but that’s obviously a bit of a stretch comparing him to an all time great and HOF TE. He has plenty to work on especially in dealing with the increased level of competition and speed at the college level but he will make an impact early because of his smarts and skill as well as the need at TE. He’ll be ready to play as a freshman.
And yes I changed my Futurecast to Vols late. Sue me!
I love you all until you hate me again soon.
