I hate the word "commitment" regarding prospects

The word is a real oxymoron. Now, I suppose if the prospect is a player UT coaches want, then I would rather the prospect "commit" to UT rather than another school. However, it is very rare to see prospects or schools regard anything as a commitment until the prospect signs an LOI or enrolls in school. Many of the prospects are still "looking around" and will renege on their "commitments" if they become enamored with another school or if a school that did not offer later offers. Certainly other schools who want the prospect do not respect a "commmitment." Those schools keep recruiting the prospect as though there has been no so-called commitment. Even the school to which a prospect has "committed" has to continue recruiting the prospect as though nothing has changed. Finally, now the school to which the prospect has committed may decide later, maybe really later, in the recruiting cycle, that it is filling up its available scholarships and would rather have another player or players. So, at some point the committed prospect may be told there is no room and that he needs to "look around." It is a dirty business all the way around. There are no good guys any more, just some that may not be as bad as others.
