There would be too much whining about the north (us, Kentucky, Missouri, and Vanderbilt) being too easy. Arkansas would likely have to be in the same pod as Oklahoma, Texas, and A&M. They would complain as would several others.
I see an alignment set up based more on geography and rivalries…
East division
Alabama
Auburn
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
South Carolina
West division
Oklahoma
Texas
Missouri
Ole Miss
Mississippi State
LSU
Arkansas
Texas A&M
Pretty even strength. I’d personally like to see the cross-division games in the regular season halted more in favor of the former MLB setup where there were no interleague games until the World Series. Have the east and west champion meet in Atlanta or New Orleans. Keep 4 OOC games where each team schedules 1 out of conference game against the other super conferences and the rest against lighter, lesser opponents. You’d be a fool to schedule say Ohio State, Penn State, Clemson, etc as the rest of your OOC schedule with how tough the SEC is now. South Carolina for instance would schedule Clemson and play perhaps Furman, Appalachian State, and East Carolina. We could play maybe Duke one year along with Tennessee Tech, ETSU, and Western Carolina. The next year play UNC and 3 other weaker opponents.
